yes, another semi-techie weighing in on the current AI – one pundit posted «LLMs are just glorified autocomplete» – and that’s the rub, LLMs are nothing more than a scaled up version of predictive text on your phone – growing up learning about Markov chains and Mondo 2000 and Wired talking about Mark V. Shaney, it’s really hard to take these techbros seriously – yes, LLMs have bigger databases and better predictive models … and … that’s it, there’s nothing more – an entire contingent of our society, a contingent that is supposed to know better, has fallen under the spell of the 60-year-old ELIZA effect
