a chronotype tries to describe your sleep habits – the most common manifestation is references to «morning larks» and «night owls» – in reality, most people fall between these extremes – fifteen-ish years ago, a study out of the Université of Liège indicated that night owls stay alert longer than early birds («more stamina») – there was lots of speculation at the time, one of the more popular hunches was that night owls matched up with night’s watch – the early birds did the work, the night owls kept them safe – since chronotypes don’t show up as genetic markers (that we know of), I doubt we’ll ever have a definitive answer – and new studies seem to indicate chronotype might be tied more to age – teens and 20-somethings are more likely to be night owls, middle agers are more likely to be early birds
