a village overrun by two armies battling it out, rattle of armor, clash of sword against shield – a frontline battlemage catches a glimpse of something through a window and goes absolutely livid – his sputtering anger is interrupted as his eyes roll up into his head, his muscles relax, and a blue-white light suffuses through his body
a nearby flagbearer seeing this, recoils in panic – dropping his flag, he starts fumbling through his belt pack and pulls out a fist-sized blue glass sphere that he immediately shatters against the cobblestones – an electric warble, a sound completely alien to the setting, repeats three times followed by an amplified voice: «Evacuate! Evacuate! Evacuate! Nova has been triggered! Repeat! Nova has been triggered!»
the flagbearer’s panicked look spreads throughout the attackers as, almost unanimously, they turn and start running back the way they had come, dropping weapons and shields, leaving behind the confused looks of the defenders
