when you head into the DMV* (in the US) to get your driver’s license, they have a set of handbooks for “rules of the road” for different types of vehicles – you don’t need a license for a bicycle, but there is still a handbook available – and one of of the biggest issues pops up during the written testing – car drivers are expected to know the rules-of-the-road for cars, and that’s all – truck drivers are expected to know rules-of-the-road for trucks, emergency vehicles, cars, motorcycles, and bikes – and so on down the list of other vehicles – car drivers aren’t told that lane filtering is legal for motorcycles, all they see is someone cutting in line ahead of them at a red light
