last week, mos_8502 posted some first thoughts on “countercomputing” and I started speculating on programming language options without bothering to think about all the choices that were already available for all of the older systems – most commonly, you think about a pairing between a compiled language and a scripting language – for compiled language, everyone immediately thinks of C, but “back in the day”, Pascal would have been a more obvious choice – and while there was a huge selection of scripting languages, the correct choice would clearly be BASIC – the combination of Pascal, BASIC, an assembler, and a system monitor would make for a pretty solid programming environment
