as with any abandoned house, watching the cleanout stages of akiya renovations has an undertone of melancholy – at the renovation stages, most of the items being cleared out are now just trash – but at one point, they meant something to someone – both purchases and gifts wrapped up, boxed, and stored away for the last time – items no longer brought out at the change of the seasons – clothing never to be worn again – decorations never to be displayed again
(made all the more poignant when the new owner offers a quiet “thank you” to each bag of trash before it heads out)
