out of the countries I’ve been lucky enough to visit, Thailand is where I feel most comfortable – I’ve speculated about some combination of Theraveda Buddhism instead of Mahayana, never being colonized (although they were forced into some trade treaties with the US), and still being on a market economy instead of a supermarket economy
