stumbled across another calendar reform, one that isn’t talked about as much, the French Republican calendar – twelve months of thirty days each, broken into three weeks of ten days each (they were intentially trying to break the influence of the Catholic Church) (as well as trying to decimalize everything) – and then five or six intercalery days to fill out the year – but what makes it more interesting (to me, at least) was replacing the «calendar of saints» with a «rural calendar», every day had a unique name associated with the rural economy – every tenth day named after an agricultural tool, every fifth day named for a common animal, the rest of the days named after plants (except the first winter month that were named after minerals)
