within the field of split keyboards, there are two broad categories – the flatter boards fall under
«split ergos» and the shaped boards under «dactyls» (not precisely, Kinesis Advantage and Maltrons
are very distinctly their own thing) – but again, this is another field where terminology has evolved
in parallel, specifically the terms used to describe the size of the boards – dactyls label boards
by rows×cols with the thumb cluster being part of the bottom row (ie. y×x) –
whereas split ergos label boards by cols×rows+thumbs with the thumb cluster being separate
(ie. x×y+t) – so a Corne is labeled 6×3+3 but using dactyl terms would be
4×6
