whether you install through apt-get or through Flatpak, when you install Steam,
you’re installing the Steam Launcher which then grabs all the revisions and updates the Steam app itself –
so worrying about whether Steam is a few versions behind is a non-issue – but (for now, fingers crossed)
Path of Exile is running better under Alpine than it did under Debian – and that’s with the extra layer
it’s dealing with – Path of Exile running under Proton running under Steam running under Flatpak’s sandbox
running under Alpine – I’ve even been able to return to using the Vulkan renderer instead of the DirectX 11
or DirectX 12 renderers
