I’m sure plenty has been written about the ecology of dungeons in games and fantasy – even Dungeon Meshi gets in on the act trying to rationalize how a certain monster would be edible – in Path of Exile, the overland and cave systems follow pretty standard tropes of monsters and bandits roaming around – although, being a game, the focus is on random spawns, not on predator/prey and over-hunting – where things get a little weirder is inside the Vaal pyramids – necromancers, undead, and constructs that have been locked in for ages upon ages – does everything freeze up in stasis until something living appears? – or do they keep pacing eternally, bone wearing on stone, grooves worn into the floors, feet, ankles, and shins ground down to nothingness?
