my first misstep was being so enamored I signed up for a 6-month subscription – as things went south, I was still paying for a game I was no longer playing – still early in the release, a lot of bugs still needed to be ironed out, the majority of them leading to horrific lag in any of the cities, to the point there were regular jokes about seconds-per-frame – as players got more upset, GM retaliation set in – file an in-game bug report and you risked having your character summoned to the top of the skybox and dropped to their death – AO led to the development of one of my first rules for online games – when the forums game becomes more entertaining than the game itself, it’s time to move on
