a few recent discussions about retro-computing and vintage computers – and one of the recurring themes is that the systems were simple enough, a single person could comprehend their entirity – and it’s not so much the complexity of the system, it’s the complexity of the interactions between components of the system that have grown out of hand
was recently dealing with some hard locks on my system (wouldn’t even respond to
Ctrl-Alt-F3
) – but it was only happening during the daytime so first
inclination was blame Chromium, but then it would happen after a reboot and before
starting Chromium – so then I blamed the RAM and I ran MemTest86 – and nothing –
next in line was the graphics card – pulled it out, plugged directly into on-board
graphics – and Huzzah! – as well, I’m now back to using DisplayPort instead of
HDMI (the ex-graphics card refused to use DisplayPort despite offering two of them)
