not too long ago, I mentioned switching from cmus to mpv for
listening to internet radio – embeddeed in the stream is a metadata block that
includes icy-title
– most internet radio streams set this to some form of
<artist> - <track> (and some don’t set it at all, looking
at you Aito Iskelmä) – cmus would display icy-title
in the status bar in place of the standard artist-and-track info – in contrast,
mpv, lacking a TUI, just echoes a constant list to STDOUT
which effectively gives it a history
– a history I find far more useful
since I often end up chasing down the track that just finished, the track just
before this one
