looking at calendars and seasons and realizing we can’t even agree on when the year starts – the Gregorian year starts about a week after the winter solstice (the point when we would have noticed the sun coming back) – the Julian year starts about two weeks later simply due to calendar drift – the Roman calendar started with March (the beginning of spring) – the French Republican calendar started around mid-September (the beginning of autumn) – and lunar calendars (like the Islamic calendar) will simply never align with solar calendars
