as kids, we learn about the four seasons (spring, summer, autumn, winter) and think nothing of it until some mention of Ancient Egypt using three seasons (flood, growth, low water) – and then there are two season systems (wet, dry) in the tropics, Europe used a five season system (spring, midsummer or verano, dog days or estío, autumn, winter) – and then we reach six season systems (spring, summer, monsoon, autumn, frost, winter) which lines up with ecological calendars (prevernal, vernal, estival, serotinal, autumnal, hibernal)
