I could easily chalk my lack of interest in mainstream music to simply getting old and curmudgeonly – but I’ve also come across stories of Gen-Z (and even Gen-A) being more interested in ’80s and ’90s over current chart-topper pop – new stuff out of indie and microgenre and Bandcamp releases are doing just fine (and probably better than a lot of people realize) – but even without LLMs, the stuff coming out of the big publishing houses has been nothing more than slop
