conservative music follows some fairly standardized trends – milataristic bombast, religious (for a religion they haven’t read), and “ultra patriotic” jingoism – US conservatives add in another category – appropriated music: music they haven’t listened to and unlicensed music – in several cases, Trump has gotten “cease and desist” notices from artists (White Stripes, Food Fighters, ABBA, Celine Dion, Isaac Hayes) – as well as being ridiculed for using songs that straight up contradict their message like “Born in the USA” and “Fortunate Son”
