I had commented before about seeing the separations between rulers and people in Cambodia and Iran – watching a couple recent videos about foreigners traveling through Afghanistan in 2025 and I’m seeing the same mannerisms, the same separation of Taliban versus the people – without Taliban nearby, the Afghans seem to open up and are completely friendly – but when Taliban enter the scene, they turn reticent, constantly glancing at the Taliban making sure they haven’t said or done anything improper – got me wondering if Marco Polo, Ibn Battuta, or Isabella Bird faced similar troubles or was it only the conquerors that faced the unruliness?
