recently saw a passing comment on programmers not liking Pascal because of its rigid structure – I certainly wasn’t a fan of it when I first had to learn it – but I think a lot of it is having it forced on you as a “teaching language” – similar to learning Shakespeare in school, you spend your time over-analyzing and dissecting, and all you do is build up resentment and pushback – it’s not until later, after the resentment has dissipated, that you start appreciating its merits – looking back through discussions when Pascal pops up, developers seem to have really fond memories of time spend with Pascal, Turbo Pascal, and Delphi
