I mentioned not too long ago that while I liked the cultures around Islam, I wasn’t too thrilled with the direction the societies had taken – along with that I came across the UN’s Gender Inequality Index – the top 10 and bottom 10 are the usual suspects (northern Europe versus central Africa) with no big surprises
I wasn’t expecting too much out of southeast Asia, but I was pleasantly surprised by two exceptions – (scale from 0.0 to 0.9, lower number is better, US is 0.169, UK is 0.083) – Vietnam comes in at 0.299 (I’m guessing the communist influence?) and Malaysia comes in at 0.172 (and I obviously don’t know enough about Malaysia) since that (rather blatantly) runs contrary to my preconceived notions of Muslim countries
