I stumbled across yet another “tabs versus spaces” discussion – and the consensus of the response all agreed with “tabs for indentation, spaces for alignment” – and the OP was having none of it, they had to have it explained to them, with examples, and they still wanted to argue – but what caught my attention was one of the ancillary points – “tabs are configurable” – whether you like 4 space indents, your partner likes C-style 8 space indents, or the intern likes 3 space indents, it’s just a matter of configuring the tab width in your editor – you can all work on the same code without having to have whitespace merges to argue about
