searching through programming languages, there’s two groups that stand out – the JVM cluster (Java, Clojure, Kotlin, Scala, Groovy) and the BEAM cluster (Erlang, Elixir, Gleam) – in both cases, the languages get compiled to bytecode and run in their respective virtual machines – but in most cases, there’s no way (or, at least, I haven’t found any way) to distribute standalone binaries – there are workarounds that involve embedding the virtual machine, but that’s not something you can casually upload to Itch.io to show off your small game
