while Ada is inspired by Pascal, the two languages diverged not only in programming style but in how they view themselves – Pascal’s aim was not just as a teaching language, but also wanting to teach that “programming is fun” – the examples in the books and guides give little proto-mini-game examples and use light-hearted variable names
whereas Ada, being a product of the Department of Defense, grew out of the auspices of “programming is serious business”, full of phrases like “design by contract” and “formal verification” – and this carries over into the guides and teaching materials – there is no room for frivolous examples, no games and fun to be found, all variables will be precisely and descriptively named
