“Roddenberry intended the show to have a progressive political agenda” – I never really twigged to this aspect as a kid, I simply watched the various Star Trek franchises because they were just good stories – one aspect that struck me recently is dealing with ageism – a new species introduced with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was the Lanthanites, a species “indistinguishable from humans that live ‘almost forever’” – normally, our ideals of an immortal race have them showing up as a forever-twenty-something (eternal youth) – whereas Star Trek shows Pelia and Nahla Ake stabilizing their outward appearance as sixtyish-year-old humans
