my most recent Youtube distraction has been the Slow Travel China channel – hour long videos of long train rides through China on regular trains (no high-speed rail, no bullet trains) – and looking back at the chances I’ve had to travel by train, I can agree with that, I like the normal, the slow, and the commuter trains more – yes, the Shinkansen is exciting, but the regular trains let you see into everyday life – the fields and houses and sheds and workers and food stalls and vendors – people chatting and kids walking to school and farmers taking a break in a field – and people just watching the train pass by
