one of the big leaps in technology was the invention of the super-bright LED – along with the invention of the blue LED, electronics manufacterers had access to a whole spectrum of low-power lighting options – even when it’s not warranted – and now, for some reason, everything has to include at least one bright LED indicator of some sort that I haven’t needed a nightlight for over a decade now – the GFCI socket has a bright LED, computers and monitors all include status LEDs, even the Elite C microcontrollers I use for keyboards has an always-on blue LED – the worst offender I’ve run across is, of course, Samsung monitors which settled on the «bright» idea of indicating sleep mode with a flashing bright blue LED …
