I’ve grown up with computers, moving from commandline to GUI as they did – and image viewers have
grown with the changes – with my new system, I have a full GUI, but I’ve found myself viewing
images from the commandline to be more appealing in no small part thanks to shell wildcards
and globbing – slowly ingesting my old SD cards and doing it into a basic
~/pictures/year/month/day/filename.ext directory structure makes things easier
(view all JPEGs for 2019)
$ imv ~/pictures/2019/*/*/*.jpg
(view JPEGs from Thailand trips)
$ imv ~/pictures/*/*/*/*thailand*
(list out all Panasonic GX7 files)
$ ls ~/pictures/*/*/*/*.RW2
(same, but get a basic count of how many)
$ ls -l ~/pictures/*/*/*/*.RW2 | wc -l
(view JPEGs from "this day" in previous years)
$ imv ~/pictures/*/04/10/*.jpg
