despite being a simple editor, nano has been around long enough
that it’s still picked up some extra features along the way and I’ve recently
stumbled across two of them that I find useful – the first comes about as a
side-effect of the syntax highlighting, the syntax files define what characters
are used for commenting – so Alt-3 will comment (or un-comment)
the current line or marked text – the second, is the ability to insert the
output of an executed command – Ctrl-T (an abbreviated form of
Ctrl-R, Ctrl-X) then date -R will insert the date
in RFC-2822 format (useful for pubDate in RSS files)
