I mentioned yesterday I found the fields of parallelism, concurrency, and
distributed programming to be fascinating – but I also have to face the
realization of what I would actually be using any of it for? – I have a bare
handful of shell scripts that mostly just invoke notify-send while
there are wonder stories of beginners juggling hundreds of processes in
Smalltalk or Erlang – but beyond the fascination, I don’t need to juggle
hundreds of processes as I stare at an InDesign screen through a remote
connection – I’d be far better served picking up something lightweight and
resilient like Lua or Uxn
