we’ve all pretty much agreed enshittification happens when a service starts to
go down the toilet – and there’s more than enough companies eager to provide
examples – yet these companies are so dependent on strip mining your privacy,
I’ve stumbled across a couple (potential) counter-examples – both Youtube and
Amazon seem to produce better search results if you’re not logged in – I block
Youtube cookies and someone I know
searches Amazon in a private window
then copies-and-pastes the product page – in both cases, when they can’t admit
to knowing who you are, they don’t pad out results pages with helpful
additions and resort everything to suit your demographic
