have been using cmus to play internet radio – it’s handled (most
of) the streams just fine, but its library management capabilities are pretty
overkill for listening to a handful of internet radio stations – recently
discovered that mpv can also handle internet radio just fine
(pretty much all media streaming including IPTV) – its audio interface on the
commandline isn’t much to write home about, but resource usage across the two is
pretty much equivalent (looks like everything just uses ffmpeg
under the hood anyways), and mpv can handle both https
streams and m3u8 playlists that cmus can’t – and it
can read the station titles when you using #EXTINF tags in
m3u playlists
$ mpv --no-video <playlist-name> --playlist-start=<index>
