looking for a language to appropriate some terms from for a project I’m thinking about and I stumbled across Sabir – Sabir was the endonym for Mediterranean Lingua Franca, a Romance based pidgin of the eastern Mediterranean based on northern Italian, Occitan, Berber, Maghrebi, Turkish, and Arabic – Sabir was not the first lingua franca, just the first to be labeled lingua franca (Frankish language) – active from the 11th to 19th centuries, Sabir grew out of the Crusaders’ lingua franca and, much later, gave rise to Polari
