I’ve been having fun playing with different calendar formats – some are quick and easy (just figuring out what format to feed to date) – some I rely on a lookup file (ex. French Republican) – one requires some integer math (and ash only does integer math) – but then I started looking at lunisolar calendars

lunar months are roughly ~29.5 days (which obviously doesn’t fit into the ~365.24 days of a solar year) – lunar months generally get rounded to either 29 or 30 days (but not the same way across multiple lunar years) – to even things out, a lunar leap month is added in roughly every 3 years (but again, not inserted in the same place each time)

so, I can figure out how to implement some rather gnarly math to calculate things each time – OR – I can build multiple yearly lookup tables (an ephemeris) and rely on everyone else who’s already done the work and the math and the fitting
