I’ve known people who are not fans of remixes or covers, especially not of covers of iconic songs – whereas I grew up searching for “techno remix” on mp3.com and Napster – but I do have a couple exceptions – no one should ever listen to original Bob Dylan, masterful writer but grating vocalist – I tend to like Leonard Cohen covers simply because no one is ever going to confuse any remix with the original – and a few years back, I came across Yamada Tamaru’s cover of “Scarborough Fair” which gender-swaps the lyrics, having the girl telling the guy to step up and prove his worth – it doesn’t help that it was the music for the finale of Shuumatsu Nani Shitemasu ka? Isogashii Desu ka? Sukutte Moratte Ii Desu ka?
