still on the topic of language culture, I could see JavaScript being a language that made the transition in the reverse direction, moving from microcomputers to mainframes – what originally started out as “a language for the masses” designed “to help nonprogrammers create dynamic, interactive web sites” has since moved to the domain of developers and libraries and frameworks – while JavaScript is relatively stable and approachable, the frameworks that have grown up around it are constantly moving targets not designed for the neophyte – JavaScript’s culture is no longer interested in “a language for the masses”
