it is rather abundantly clear that politicians think of themselves as a privileged class, having nothing to do with the people they are supposed to be representing – not that any politician would pass any bill that would harm the lifestyle to which they’ve become accustomed but, aside from sortition and providing rewards for doing your civic duty, if we go by a simplistic “one rule” then I think one worth trying would be tying all of a politician’s benefits to the median of their constituency would be appropriate – they get the median salary of their district, a median housing allowance, a median health insurance plan, and so on
