Chumbawamba – “Tubthumping” ↗
not that long ago, I went through this same bit of looking through programming languages trying to decide on one – at that time, the ones getting all the attention were Zig, Crystal, Janet, Wren, and Nim – I don’t get excited by C lookalikes, so that eliminated Zig fairly quickly – Wren looked fun, but Wren and Dome are inactive and the communities pretty non-existant – Janet is a Lisp, and I was a fan of it at the time, but nowadays I have the misconception of Lisps and Schemes being too academic, not enough real world
so that left Crystal and Nim – and I found both really interesting, to the point I was doing exercises in both, flipping back and forth – Crystal has the look-and-feel of compiled Ruby, feels fun, but long compile times and churns out gigantic binaries (even for something like “Hello, World!”) – Nim had the look-and-feel of compiled Python with significant whitespace and decent compile sizes – but then the BDFL of Nim, Andreas Rumpf opened his mouth – in a question about succession, he instead responded with a rant about “this clownworld” where he is forced to rename the “master” branch to “main” … well, that was certainly a choice …
