I’ve pretty much always been enamoured with the aesthetics of the Mandelbrot set – I picked up a copy of Benoit Mandelbrot’s The Fractal Geometry of Nature fairly early on, worked my way through the algorithms in Peitgen & Saupe’s The Science of Fractal Images, and marveled at the images in Peitgen & Richter’s The Beauty of Fractals – I started off with a text version in IBM BASIC and then proceeded to hog the Epson MX-80 for the entire lunch hour as it slowly buzzed through dot matrix graphics, pin by pin
