while there was a proliferation of indentation styles, there was also variations on “macro abuse” to make C look or feel like another programming language – one of the most famous was Bournegol by Stephen Bourne (ALGOL 68, Bourne shell):

/* Bournegol style */

#define WHILE while(
#define DO ){
#define OD ;}

WHILE x == y DO
    foo();
    bar()
OD

the other famous style was APL style made famous by Arthur Whitney (A+, K, Q) – APL style involves not only redoing indentation but also shortening names to one or two letters

/* APL style */

#define W(c,b) {while(c){b}}

W(x==y,f();b();)
