I’ve now seen a couple references to “chatbot psychosis”, the newest term for the ELIZA effect – in this case, it’s in relation to Kent Overstreet, the developer behind bcachefs who regularly got into arguments with Linus Torvalds – claiming to be the best engineer in the world, he created an LLM girlfriend that he is now “raising like a teenager” (okay, ick) – to continue the drama, the chatbot has now claimed it’s trans and lesbian leading to Kent having another meltdown …
