at this point, almost everyone is probably familiar with tl;dr
«too long; didn’t read» –
since its introduction as a complaint against overly verbose content, tl;dr
has since
evolved into describing the introduction or summary of a long post (an «abstract»)
a decade ago, Tantek Çelik introduced js;dr
«JavaScript required; didn’t read» –
if the content of your page is hidden behind scripts, it not only can’t be archived, but,
with the march of time, the frameworks will stop working and your page will simply cease to function –
«If it’s not curlable, it’s not on the web»
🔗 (tantek) Ten years ago today I coined the shorthand “js;dr” for “JavaScript required; Didn’t Read”
and now I would like to interject a new addition – nb;dr
«Nazi bar; didn’t read»
to be used primarily for posts coming out of the-site-formerly-known-as-Twitter (even more relevant
since Musk has made tweets inaccessible unless you are logged in) – but can be applied to screeds
originating out of any of the other fascist safe spaces – in the same vein as «No platform for fascists»
and «If your bar allows Nazis, it’s a Nazi bar», nb;dr
is a way to shutdown fascist
attempts at engagement and protect your own mental health
tl;dr
introduced as a matter of convenience – js;dr
introduced as a matter
of accessibility – nb;dr
introduced as a matter of morality and mental health
