I think I mentioned before, I’m slowly ingesting photos off my old SD cards – and of course
I ran into a bad card – was able to copy most of the image files off the card, but was still
getting lots of read errors – but I also found a nifty commandline solution, a combination
of ddrescue and photorec – ddrescue does everything
it can to image the disk – and photorec will work over that image (leaving the
card itself untouched) trying to reclaim anything that looks like a coherent file – today’s
image is what happens when there’s nothing to recover or reconsctruct
