have been watching the Shoyan Japanese Carpenter channel on Youtube lately – and while he focuses on higher-end middle-class homes (he has access to some gorgeous pieces of lumber that we only see in Craftsman style), so much of the initial framing reminds me of descriptions of the Sears’ kit homes – the sills, columns, joists, and rafters all arrive on site with lengths pre-cut, joints pre-milled, numbered, organized, and stacked, ready for the carpenters to assemble everything like a piece of Ikea furniture
