Opus III – “It’s a Fine Day” ↗
so I mentioned seeing raised thresholds between rooms in one of Roaming Wild Rosie’s videos – but trying to find more information was frustrating – a Reddit thread here, a video clip there – it occurs in Nordic houses, a different style appears in older Southeast Asian houses – but no one talks about it since it’s such an everyday item that it’s just background
it makes sense from a practical point of view – by removing the gap under the door, it helps with insulating a room, it helps with controlling sound, it keeps dust and dirt from traveling around the house, it can even help controlling leaks in a bathroom – it’s also the bane of Roombas and the toes of the uninitiated – and those with accessibility issues can order “threshold eliminators” from their local government
