one of the classic examples of Wirth’s Law is the Java programming language – it’s long had a reputation of being slow and it’s only starting to shed that reputation somewhat recently – and, I think, that’s only because hardware is finally catching up to Java’s needs – because of its slowness, Java never really took off in the role of creating web apps (write once, run everywhere) but it seems to have found its niche on enterprise mainframes where it’s gaining a foothold in the fintech industry, holding its own against COBOL – again, on hardware that can finally meet its needs
